Job Description: Library Systems Manager
Position Overview:
The Library Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of library systems and technologies. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring efficient access to information and optimal functionality of library systems. The Library Systems Manager is expected to possess a deep understanding of library and information science principles, information management, and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and execute strategies for the selection, implementation, and maintenance of library systems, including integrated library systems (ILS), digital asset management systems (DAMS), discovery platforms, and other related technologies.
2. Collaborate with library staff to evaluate system needs and identify opportunities for enhancement or improvement of library systems.
3. Manage the integration and interoperability of various library systems, ensuring seamless access to resources and efficient workflows.
4. Monitor and troubleshoot system issues, coordinating with vendors and IT teams to ensure prompt resolution.
5. Stay up-to-date with emerging library technologies and industry trends, recommending innovative solutions to improve library systems and services.
6. Lead and participate in cross-functional teams for system upgrades, data migration, and system implementation projects.
7. Develop and deliver training programs to library staff on the effective use of library systems and technologies.
8. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess user needs, gather requirements, and provide recommendations for system enhancements or new system implementations.
9. Ensure data integrity and security of library systems, implementing appropriate access controls and data backup procedures.
10. Stay informed about copyright laws, licensing agreements, and digital rights management issues related to library systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
2. Proven experience in managing library systems or related technologies.
3. In-depth knowledge of library and information science principles, practices, and standards.
4. Proficient in the implementation and administration of integrated library systems (ILS) and other library-related technologies.
5. Familiarity with digital asset management systems (DAMS), discovery platforms, and other library system applications.
6. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.
8. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
